Maps have become an important tool for the visualisation of large and complex datasets. As a result, many are produced by people with an abundance of specialist technical skills in data manipulation and analysis, but relatively little knowledge of what makes a good map. Conversely, many cartographers and designers have not acquired the technical knowledge to produce data-rich maps that meet well-established cartographic standards. This course will provide a brief introduction and overview of the software and skills required to create such maps in the hope that more cartographers can take advantage of the many developments in data science and associated fields.
