Tableau Software, in partnership with the University of Leeds and the Consumer Data Research Centre, is hosting a full-day workshop exclusively for staff and students at Universities around the UK.

Tableau Software helps people see and understand data.  Learn data visualisation best practices and receive hands-on training session delivered by Tableau experts.

Attendees will be provided with a free Tableau Desktop license prior to the event for use during the workshop, however please note that only emails ending .ac.uk will be taken into account for the registration.

Agenda

  • 09:00 – 09:30: Registration
  • 09:30 – 10:30: The Beautiful Science of Data Visualisation
  • 10:30 – 12:30: Hands-on training on Tableau Desktop (including break)
  • 12:30 – 13:30: Lunch
  • 13:30 – 17:00: Challenges on Tableau Desktop + Group work on Tableau

Tableau goodies will be offered to all attendees.

 

The workshop is open to University staff and students, irrelevant of their level of knowledge on Tableau.  Participants who don’t know much about Tableau are welcome to watch this video prior to the workshop but it is optional.

Tutors:

Roy Ruddle, Professor of Computing, University of Leeds

Roy has worked in both industry and academia, and specialises in research into new user interfaces and visualization techniques for high-definition workstation and Powerwall displays. His research spans application domains as diverse as web browsing, petrophysics and health, and his Leeds Virtual Microscope (LVM) is being commercialised by the healthcare company Roche. Roy currently leads the QuantiCode “Making Sense of Data” project that is funded by the EPSRC and has seven public sector and commercial partners from the health, retail and data centre sectors.

Thierry Driver, Academic Programs – EMEA – Tableau Software

Thierry has been working at Tableau for more than 2 years now where he manages the Academic Programs in Europe, Middle-East and Africa (EMEA). Thierry has a strong experience in the Higher Education Sector, in particular on the French market where he was previously in charge of promoting the Master in Management program in one of the best Business Schools in Europe, HEC Paris. He also previously managed the Postgraduate programs at another French Business School, SKEMA Business School.
In his role at Tableau, Thierry has been visiting over 50 Universities to give lectures on data visualization and demoing Tableau Desktop.

Géraldine Zanolli, Product Consultant – Tableau Software

Geraldine loves to travel the world from Mauritius, to Paris and is now settled down in London. She is a product consultant at Tableau. Her role involves helping customers using Tableau to see and understand their data. Before joining Tableau, she graduated from ISEP with an MSc in Information Systems and from Cranfield University with an MSc in Computer Science. Before Tableau, as a big social media fan, she funded an e-reputation agency, and also worked in IT management.

Paul Howie, Associate Sales Consultant – Tableau Software

Prior to joining Tableau last year, Paul spent 10 years working in the BI space, 9 of those as a member of Cognos and IBM’s most senior European technical overlay team.  With a number of specialisations including SAP integration, OLAP concepts, and extensible visualisation, Paul was called upon to assist in-country teams on the most challenging of pre and post-sales situations.
