Home » About the CDRC

Vast amounts of consumer data are generated each day in the UK. These data provide valuable insights into human behaviour and help organisations operate more effectively.

However, it’s not just businesses that benefit from analysis of these data. Researchers are also able to use consumer data to study what’s going on in society today.

The Consumer Data Research Centre was established to lead academic engagement between industry and the social sciences, and utilise consumer data for academic research purposes.

We provide unique insight into a diverse range of societal and economic challenges, in collaboration with a wide range of consumer data providers.

Who we are

The CDRC was established in 2014 with funding from the UK Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and brings together world-class researchers from the University of Leeds, University College London, the University of Liverpool and the University of Oxford.

We have recently been awarded further funding from the ESRC, which will enable the Centre to build upon its proven vision and strategy through to March 2025 – combining a unique, cloud-based data infrastructure with an established framework for supporting innovative research and capacity building.
