Research Collaborations
We work with a number of public sector partners on collaborative research – from short proof-of-concept projects spanning a few months to long-term programmes over several years. Our flexible and adaptable approach allows us to structure projects and programmes to suit each organisation.

Identifying online hate crime with Lancashire Constabulary
Our researchers collaborated with Lancashire Constabulary on an award winning project using natural language processing for identification of online hate on twitter.
Improving population estimates with Leeds City Council
In 2017, GP Registers for Leeds counted 60,000 more than the Office for National Statistics estimated to be living in Leeds. This project assessed how these discrepancies occur and provided further understanding as to why they are occurring.
Training and Development
We are committed to thoughtful and focused capacity building and knowledge exchange, through provision of technical training, skills and development planning opportunities. Our courses bring public sector practitioners together with academic researchers, to equip participants with the skills needed to get the best from consumer data.
Our courses are regularly attended by local city councils (including Leeds and Hull), the Department for Work and Pensions and NHS Digital.
Booking onto a course at the CDRC is an easy process, with helpful and friendly staff able to answer any queries and get you booked onto courses as requested. The quality of the teaching I have received on the courses has been excellent.
Michelle Morris’ approach to spatial analytics really benefited and kick-started my ability to work in this area. I am a data analyst in healthcare and the classroom-based training here works well as additional development tool.
The introduction to analytical/coding platforms courses I have attended gave me a good foundation to take away and learn from. The 2-day python course in particular gave me a good grasp of the basics, working right through to more technical issues.
I would certainly book courses there again due to the quality of the teaching, the friendly and encouraging environment, and the good quality lunch on offer!
