Research Collaborations

We work with a number of industry partners on collaborative research – from short proof-of-concept projects spanning a few months to long-term programmes over several years. Our flexible and adaptable approach allows us to structure projects and programmes to suit each organisation.

Identifying priority places for food with Which?

Working in collaboration with Which? our researchers and data scientists created the Priority Places for Food Index – an easy-to-use tool which equips users with the information needed to provide targeted and appropriate food insecurity support.

The Priority Places for Food Index and tool is free to use and applicable across commercial, public sector, and government organisations.

Improving understanding of how to shift diets with IGD

Since 2019 our researchers have been working IGD – The Institute of Grocery Distribution – to conduct real-life behaviour change trials with retailers, testing what works and what doesn’t.

This research enables the industry to build knowledge around how to shift diets, accelerating the pace of change in food retail and health policy

Tackling food waste with Asda

It is estimated that one-third of edible food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted globally each year. In the UK, food waste derived from households accounts for 7.3 million tonnes of total food and drink wasted annually. UK households throw away approximately a third of the food they purchase for consumption.

CDRC researchers joined with Asda to implement a multichannel initiative aimed at changing customer attitudes and behaviour.

Supporting the global recovery from COVID-19

The Emergent Alliance combined traditional economic, business, travel and retail data sets with behaviour and sentiment data, to provide insights into – and practical applications to support – the global recovery from COVID-19.

CDRC provided this powerful data alliance with scientific expertise and access to global academic research networks.

Founding members of the alliance included Leeds Institute for Data Analytics, IBMGoogle CloudThe Data CityTruataRolls-Royce and ODI Leeds

Data Collaborations

We are working with more than 30 data owners to make consumer data available to trusted researchers, whose research helps to make the UK a healthier, more sustainable, inclusive and resilient place to live.

Training and Development

CDRC is committed to thoughtful and focused capacity building and knowledge exchange, through provision of technical training, skills and development planning opportunities. Our courses bring industry practitioners together with academic researchers, to equip participants with the skills needed to get the best from consumer data.
