General Privacy Notice on Personal Data acquired by the Consumer Data Research Centre (CDRC)

The Consumer Data Research Centre is an initiative funded by the Economic and Social Research Council. It was established in 2014 to lead academic engagement between industry and the social sciences and to utilise consumer data for academic research purposes.

The CDRC provides unique insight into a diverse range of societal and economic challenges in collaboration with a wide range of consumer data providers. To accomplish this objective the CDRC acquires data from third parties, in some cases including personal data, as part of its Data Acquisition activities, to harness the potential of consumer-related Big Data for the benefit of society.

Data acquisitions are conducted by University College LondonUniversity of Liverpool; or University of Leeds, who are all partner institutions of the CDRC. The partner institution conducting a data acquisition is considered as the Data Controller of the acquired dataset.

In addition, where applicable, bespoke transparency notices for the relevant datasets are available on the individual webpages of the datasets on the CDRC Data Store. These notices contain specific details on the personal data being processed, the legal basis for processing and information on data security and retention.

Each partner institution also has its own Privacy Notice on processing Personal Data in compliance with the GDPR, which you can find below:
