Beginner’s QGIS – Vector Data (Leeds)

This 1 day interactive course provides a practical introduction to QGIS; a free, open-source Geographic Information System. You will learn the principles underpinning vector-based geographic data analysis and learn to undertake tasks such as sourcing, loading and interrogating data; creating professional map outputs, preparing geographic data sets and undertaking spatial analysis. Short lectures will be interspersed with hands-on practical exercises with plenty of opportunity to work with your own data and seek advice regarding your own projects.

Is this course for me?

No prior knowledge is assumed for this course other than having basic IT skills.

“Rachel was approachable and friendly, and obviously knowledgeable on the topic. She explained things clearly and was always available to answer questions. Content was clear and easy to understand. As a beginner I didn’t feel truly lost at any point! I can now also use the course material as a look up for future work.

I will be looking to use QGIS to produce maps showing results from analyses we conduct at JBA Risk Management. Understanding the different types of maps, symbologies etc. available will be very useful, and knowing I can also interrogate the data using analytical tools is an added bonus!”

“It will help me enormously – it came at just the right time. I want to present many of my research findings in map form. I struggled with ArcGIS. If I didn’t use it for a few months, I really struggled to get back into it. A ‘friendly’ course. It was ‘fun’! I thought the size of our group was just right.”
