Overview

This one day in-person course focuses on applied spatial analysis techniques and the production of high quality mapping outputs for participants who want to develop their GIS skills. We will work with QGIS: a free, open source Geographic Information System.

Mapping can be an incredibly effective way to show information, however it can be hard to know what approaches to use and how to get the most out of your data. Data visualisation and effective communication of analysis is vitally important. In this course, we’ll focus on how to produce high quality mapping outputs that bring your data to life.

We will cover approaches to conducting vector-based spatial analysis in QGIS to gain insights from geographic data. Then, working through a number of examples, we will cover approaches to mapping and cartography. By the end of the session, participants will be able to identify and apply spatial analysis techniques and be able to produce a number of high quality outputs. Short lectures will be interspersed with hands-on exercises throughout the day to give participants practical experience of using the software.

This course is designed for participants with familiarity with GIS software (who have attended, for example, our Introduction to QGIS training course) who want to take their GIS skills to the next level.
